UP Mindanao once made headlines by transforming the ubiquitous sago into a very promising income generator in Mindanao. And to boost the said project, Department of Science and Technology and UPMin (UP Mindanao) just launched the DOST-UPMin Biotechnology Facility at UPMin’s College of Science and mathematics in Davao City. The facility is expected to help Mindanao utilizes its unused indigenous bio-resources for economic development.
Dr. Dulce M. Flores, leader of the research program, said that it also aims to shorten the process and reduce the cost of producing value-added products such as industrial lactic acid, ethanol and biodegradable plastic from starch.
UPMin is proud of this since, it is another milestone for the university.
