DOST (Department of Science and Technology), with the success of Philippine made ripe mango products in the global market, is now conducting project which aims to produce world class products from green mango.
Katrina Batang, science research specialist II of Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (PCIERD) said that the council has an ongoing research on green mango as an all natural juice drink which is leaded by its sister agency, Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI).
DOST is tapping green mango due to its rich source of Vitamins, adding that positive laboratory results indicate its potential in reducing malnutrition in the country. The green mango juice drink will be fortified with Vitamins A and C and will be packed in 200 millilitre (mL) polyethylenes (PE) foil standard up pouches.
Batang said that the project includes the formulation of the green mango juice drink based on the Recommended Energy Nutrient Intake (RENI), sensory evaluation and shelf life testing, which will be piloted in Villasis, Pagasinan by a private company.
