As durian and mangosteen continually to be on the rise in Davao, the call for processing technologies also increases.
And to address the said issue, Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. XI (DOST XI) in partnership with DOST Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) had a 3-day hands-on training on Durian and Mangosteen Processing.
The event was set at at Kor-Phil Training Center, TESDA, Tibungco, Davao City last September 21-23, 2010.
There were about 50 participants from Food Processors Association of Davao, the Local Government Units of Mawab, Copmval, Davao Oriental and Davao City, Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and other private firms who actively joined the activities.
Among the topic discussed were:
- Producing innovative products such as durian chips, sauce, spread, and jam;
- Producing mangosteen jam, wine, vinegar, juice sauce, tea and capsules; and
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
The event was made possible through the expertise of the DOST-ITDI trainers, Maria Elsa M. Falco and Elmer Magora.
A few DOST workforce also joined the trainings to develop their knowledge and skills.
