Central Luzon topped in the implementation of the Department of Trade and Industry’s “Bagwis” program. The National Capital Region is in the first place having many Gold awards since 2006. The Bagwis program has a goal of recognizing establishments that uphold the rights of consumers and practice responsible commerce. In 2010, the trade department had already given Gold “Bagwis” award to 119 establishments in the region.
According to DTI Regional information officer Wilfred Carbonell, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija share the top slot of having the most number of businesses that have received the awards. Bulacan placed 2nd with 24 and Tarlac got the 3rd place with 14. Central Luzon now has 64 “Bagwis” Silver and 59 “Bagwis” Bronze awardees apart from the Gold seal.
Businesses were awarded on a graduated level of excellence: Bronze for complying to Fair Trade Laws and maintaining good customer relations through the establishment of a Consumer Welfare Desk; Silver for attaining the Bronze requirements plus ensuring effective store management operations and demonstrating social responsibility; and Gold for attaining the Silver requirements, implementing some elements aligned to quality and environmental management systems in their operations and meeting international standards.
