To sustain high demand for Philippine-produced muscovado in export markets, DOST (Department of Science and Technology) is formulating to standardize muscovado production.
Muscovado or raw cane sugar has been identified as one of the priority export products for development under the Philippine Export Development Plan.
DOST said that the standardization of muscovado production process will ensure quality and meet strict requirements of markets in Asia, Europe and North America.
The improvement of the traditional practices would not only standardize the process but also introduce awareness on good manufacturing practices and for overall improvement of the mill to qualify for local and global markets. [via The Visayan Daily Star]
