As part of the government’s nationwide waste disposal program and fuel generation drive, DOST (Department of Science and Technology) launches its portable biogas digester.
DOST Secretary Estrella Alabastro said that the system is produced with partnership with the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the provincial government, and private group, PRISM Import-Export, Inc. the project is also part of the President arroyo’s barangay-level waste-management program that will help lessen the nationwide problem.
Rowena Gelonga of DOST Region 6 said that with the biogas digester, users can lessen organic waste materials and also produce household cooking fuel.
The digester, made of synthetic containers and plastic tubes was the result of a six-month research and development worth some P250,000.
The whole system cost around P10,000 which initially appears expensive to users, but this can save them in the long run from not using commercial fuels and instead collect manure from piggeries and poultry farms in their areas.
