In Easter Visayas, DOST (Department of Science and Technology) regional office just initiated the use of vegetable flour as an alternative to wheat flour.
And as part of the government’s efforts to fast-track the commercialization of new technologies and find alternatives to wheat flour in making noodles and bread, an awareness and seminar on the use of vegetable flour was conducted among bakery operators in the region.
Flour made form squash was one of the commercialized technologies which was introduced in the seminar spearheaded by the Food and Nutrition research institute (FNRI) with the support of DOST Small Enterprises technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI), DOST Regional Office 8, Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry and Energy Research and Development (EVCIERD) at DOST-PSTC Government Center Cadahug Palo, Leyte.
Meanwhile, another set of seminar is being scheduled for a second batch of bakery operators, which aims to encourage farmers to plant vegetables and increase vegetable production in the province. [via Business Worl Online]
