To boost the ability of the agency through the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to supervise local weather condition in a locality that will give more precise and consistent forecast and warnings, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) under Secretary Mario G. Montejo is set to install 2 Automatic Weather Stations (AWS).
Provincial Director Jairus Lachica of DOST- Aklan said that DOST had already conducted site inspections and coordination with local government units and the academe that can accommodate the AWS.
Goding Ramos Park fronting the Provincial Capitol in Kalibo, and at the ASU Campus in Ibajay, Aklan are the selected sites for the project.
Weather parameters such as wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure, air temperature, relative humidity and rainfall amount are set to be measured by the AWS.
Every AWS will send any information to the central collection server located at Quezon City via SMS and directly process and upload to a website.
The website can be accessed to provide historical data to end users.
